In our effort to be informative and transparent to the public, the Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority (SRPRA) intends to offer occasional “state of the project” updates to supplement our ongoing public outreach through social media channels. We understand more and more people are becoming more and more excited for the return of regional passenger rail everyday and we will do our best to release information as it becomes available.

This is big… In December 2023, SRPRA was accepted into the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Corridor Identification and Development Program (CIDP)! That funded the next ambitious phase of the project.

SRPRA engaged AECOM as our planning and design consultant and work began under Step 1 of the FRA CIDP grant on March 1, 2024 with the preparation of a Project Management Plan (PMP).

In April, SRPRA and AECOM are continuing the CIDP Step1 effort and create a Statement of Work (SOW), schedule and budget for Step 2, which provides for creation of the Service Development Plan (SDP) for intercity rail passenger service between Reading and Philadelphia.

SRPRA is proceeding with a consistently strategic, organized approach to ensure the project’s best chance to succeed. The Step 2 effort is planned to begin in early summer and continue into early 2025.

How can you help?

Please spread the word about the ambitious project by sharing SRPRA’s social media channels and posts on Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin. Also, take a moment to sign up for our email list to stay up-to-date on the latest news, events and progress.

Thank you for your continued support of bringing regional rail service back to the Reading, Pottstown and Phoenixville communities!
