The SRPRA Board met on April 27th at the Berks County Services Center, with both in-person attendance and virtual participation.
A consistent theme throughout the discussion was progress. From local development updates in Reading to continued coordination with regional partners, the work is steadily advancing on multiple fronts.
The work continues to move forward across planning, coordination, and financial oversight as the Authority positions itself for official Step Two advancement through the Federal Railroad Administration. What remains clear is that this project is about more than rail. It is about access, economic activity, and shaping the future of the communities it will serve.
Executive Director Tom Frawley shared a meaningful update on coordination with Amtrak. A formal agreement is expected shortly, which will trigger key next steps including ridership forecasting and operating cost analysis. That work is projected to be completed by mid-summer and will play a critical role in shaping the next phase of the project.
“Once the agreement is finalized, we’re moving immediately into the next level of analysis with Amtrak, at no cost to the Authority. Ridership and operating projections are already in motion, and we expect meaningful data by the end of July.”
Behind the scenes, preparation for entry into the next phase of the federal Corridor Identification and Development Program continues. Preliminary work on planning documents and route analysis is already underway, positioning the project to move quickly as soon as it advances.
Financially, the Authority remains stable, with routine expenses approved and planning underway for upcoming budgets and grant coordination efforts. Outreach also continues, with a focus on engaging the business community and building awareness around the long-term opportunity tied to passenger rail.
The meeting reinforced a simple reality. This project is not standing still. It is being built step by step through coordination, planning, and momentum across the region.
